How do I scan a receipt?+
Open the in-app camera and point it at your receipt โ the app automatically detects the edges and captures it. You can also batch-import receipts from your photo library. On-device OCR then extracts the merchant, amount, and date.
Are my receipts uploaded to the cloud?+
No. Receipt images are NOT uploaded to the cloud. All data is stored locally on your device, and OCR is processed on-device. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Does the app work offline?+
Yes. Core operations โ scanning, OCR, categorization, and viewing your dashboard โ all work completely offline. An internet connection is only used for ads (free version) and optional analytics.
How are my expenses categorized?+
Receipts are automatically sorted into categories such as groceries, dining, travel, utilities, shopping, and entertainment. You can also create custom categories with color coding and reassign any receipt in a tap.
The OCR got something wrong. Can I fix it?+
Absolutely. OCR accuracy isn't guaranteed, so you can manually edit the merchant, amount, date, or category for any receipt. We recommend always reviewing extracted details before using them for taxes or accounting.
How many receipts can I store?+
Unlimited! Receipt Digitizer stores receipts in your device's storage, so the only limit is your available device space.
How do I back up or export my receipts?+
You have two options: iCloud automatic backup (via your device backup) keeps your data safe, and manual PDF export (a Pro feature) lets you export receipts and reports for taxes, accounting, or reimbursement.
What's included in Pro?+
The free version includes scanning, organization, and spending insights. Pro removes advertisements and unlocks PDF export, with advanced reports coming soon.
How do refunds work?+
Refunds are handled by the Apple App Store, typically within 14 days of purchase. To request one, use Apple's "Report a Problem" page or your purchase history in Settings.
How do I manage or cancel a subscription?+
Subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID:
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Tap [Your Name] at the top
- Select Subscriptions
- Choose Receipt Digitizer
- Tap Cancel Subscription or change your plan
Troubleshooting
The camera won't open or can't scan
- Go to Settings โ Receipt Digitizer โ Camera and ensure access is enabled
- Make sure the receipt is well-lit and lies flat
- Clean your camera lens and hold steady while capturing
- Restart the app and try again
OCR accuracy is poor
- Scan in good lighting with the full receipt in frame
- Flatten crumpled receipts before scanning
- Manually edit any fields the OCR misread
- Check that the correct language is selected in settings
The app crashes or freezes
- Force-close and reopen the app
- Restart your iPhone
- Ensure you have available device storage
- Update to the latest iOS and app version
