Support & Help

Everything you need to master InspectKit.

Getting Started

What iOS version does InspectKit require?

InspectKit requires iOS 18.0 or later on iPhone or iPad. On-device AI features (AI findings and AI Template Builder) require iOS 26 and Apple Intelligence, available on iPhone 15 Pro and later with Apple Intelligence enabled.

How do I create my first inspection?

Tap the "+" button on the Inspections tab. Choose a template, fill in the client and property details (you can reuse a past client with a single tap), optionally add up to 6 property overview photos, then start working through the checklist.

What inspection templates are available?

InspectKit includes 19 built-in templates covering home, building, commercial property, roof, HVAC, solar panel, rental move-in/out, punch list, vehicle fleet, safety audit, land/lot, and more. You can also create unlimited custom templates -- tap the "+" button in the Templates tab -- or use the AI Template Builder to generate one from a plain-language description.

Can I add items mid-inspection?

Yes. A "Add Custom Item" card appears at the bottom of every section while an inspection is active. Custom items you add mid-inspection appear in the summary and PDF just like template items, but only for that inspection -- the underlying template is not changed.

Can I reuse past clients?

Yes. When creating a new inspection, tapping into the Client Name or Property Address field surfaces a "Reuse a Past Client" panel showing your recent distinct client-and-property combinations. One tap fills name, address, and email instantly.

Photos, Video & Voice

How do I add photos to a finding?

Tap the Photo chip next to any finding. You can take a new photo with the camera or pick from your photo library. Photos are linked to that specific finding and appear in the PDF alongside it.

What are evidence stamps?

When you take a new photo inside InspectKit, it is automatically stamped in the bottom-left corner with the date, time, street address, and GPS coordinates. For library photos, the stamp uses the photo's own EXIF date and GPS -- or no stamp if neither is available. Stamps also appear as a caption line in the PDF. You can turn stamps off in Settings > Photos > "Stamp Date & Location".

How do I add a video to a finding?

Tap the Video chip next to any finding. Record up to 20 seconds with the camera, or pick a clip from your library (clips longer than 20s open the system trimmer). The app compresses the clip to HEVC on-device. In the PDF, each clip appears as a poster-frame thumbnail with a play glyph and duration. When sharing, tap "Share with Videos" to include the actual clip files alongside the PDF.

Where are video clips stored?

Video clips are stored on your device only, in the app's local storage. They are included in your normal iOS device backup but do not sync to iCloud -- they never count against your iCloud storage quota. Clips are deleted automatically when you delete the inspection or finding they belong to.

How does voice note transcription work?

Tap the Voice chip next to any finding, then record. Transcription happens on-device using Apple's speech recognition in the app's current language. No internet connection is required. The transcript appears in the finding and is included in the PDF.

Can I annotate photos?

Yes. After adding a photo, tap to open it and use the annotation tools to draw, highlight, add arrows, and mark issues directly on the image.

Finding Severity

What is finding severity?

When you flag a finding (mark it as fail/no/issue), severity chips appear: Minor, Major, and Safety. Tap the appropriate chip to rate the finding. Severity is descriptive only -- it does not affect section completion.

How does severity appear in the report?

The PDF Recommendations page sorts findings highest-severity first, adds a colored severity tag next to each item, and shows a tally line at the top ("N Safety / N Major / N Minor / N Unrated") so clients immediately understand the risk profile.

On-Device AI

What is "Improve with AI"?

"Improve with AI" rewrites a finding's notes (or voice transcript) into a professional, precise observation and suggests an appropriate severity. Everything runs on-device using Apple Intelligence -- nothing is sent to any server. Tap Undo to instantly restore the original notes.

What is the AI Template Builder?

In the Templates tab or the new-template editor, describe what you need to inspect in a sentence (e.g. "restaurant kitchen safety audit") and InspectKit generates a full-section checklist live in the editor. You can review, edit, and save -- or tap "Generate Again" for a different take. Nothing is saved until you tap Save.

Which devices support AI features?

AI features require iOS 26 and Apple Intelligence, which is available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 models with Apple Intelligence enabled and the language model downloaded. On every other device the AI options are simply not shown -- all other InspectKit features work normally.

Reports

How do I generate a report?

Open a completed inspection and tap "Generate Report." InspectKit compiles all your findings, photos (with stamp captions), video poster frames, and information into a professional PDF.

What's included in a report?

Reports include: a branded cover page with client and property info, condition badge, and at-a-glance metrics; a property overview photo page; an executive summary with narrative; all inspection sections with compact findings rows and evidence; a Recommendations page sorted by severity with colored tags and a tally; a photo gallery; and a dual-signature sign-off page with limitations and disclaimer.

Can I customize my reports?

Yes (Pro feature). In Settings > Business Profile, add your logo, company name, signature, and footer text. These appear on every report automatically. Free-tier reports include a watermark; Pro removes it.

Can I share video clips with the report?

Yes. After generating a report, if any findings have video clips attached, the share menu shows "Share with Videos" -- this bundles the PDF alongside readable copies of each clip (named by finding, e.g. "Roof Covering 1.mp4") for easy delivery.

What language is the report printed in?

The report is printed in the language the app was set to when you tapped Generate Report. All built-in template content, section headings, field labels, and the executive narrative are fully localized for English, Spanish, French, Japanese, and Portuguese.

Languages

Which languages does InspectKit support?

English, Spanish, French, Japanese, and Portuguese. You can choose your language during onboarding or switch at any time in Settings. The entire app, all built-in templates, and the complete PDF report update immediately.

Data and Backup

Will my data sync across devices?

Yes (Pro feature). Enable iCloud sync in Settings -- all inspections, reports, and settings sync to your private iCloud account across iPhone and iPad. Video clips are device-only and do not sync, but they are included in your normal iOS device backup.

Can I export and import a backup?

Yes. Settings > Data > Export Backup saves a JSON file of your inspections and business profile to Files. Import Backup reads a previously exported file -- it deduplicates by client+address+date so re-importing is safe.

What happens if I uninstall the app?

With iCloud sync (Pro): your inspection data and reports are preserved in iCloud. Reinstall and sign in to recover everything. Video clips are in your device backup, not iCloud. Without iCloud sync: all local data is lost on uninstall.

Subscriptions

What's the difference between Free and Pro?

Free: 1 inspection and 1 report. Photos, video, voice notes, finding severity, all 19 templates plus custom, 5 languages, and on-device AI on compatible devices are all included for free.

Pro: unlimited inspections, unlimited watermark-free reports, custom branding (logo and signature), iCloud sync, and priority support.

How do I upgrade to Pro?

In Settings > Subscription, tap "Upgrade to Pro" and choose Monthly, Annual, or Lifetime.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, find InspectKit and tap it, then tap Cancel Subscription. Your Pro access continues until the end of the current billing period.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, per Apple's App Store refund policy.

Troubleshooting

Photos not appearing in inspections+
  1. Check that you granted Camera and Photo Library permissions in iOS Settings > InspectKit
  2. Ensure you have sufficient storage on your device
  3. Force-close and reopen the app
  4. Restart your device
Evidence stamp not appearing on a photo+

Stamps only appear on photos taken with the InspectKit camera. For library photos, a stamp only appears when the photo has EXIF date metadata -- heavily compressed or screenshot images may lack this. Check Settings > Photos > "Stamp Date & Location" is enabled. For location: allow InspectKit to use your location in iOS Settings; only GPS fixes from the last 5 minutes are used for camera photos.

Video finding won't attach or is taking a long time+

InspectKit compresses each video clip to HEVC on-device before attaching it. A 20-second 1080p clip typically takes a few seconds on device. If compression stalls:

  1. Ensure you have at least 200 MB of free storage
  2. Try a shorter clip (under 20 seconds)
  3. Force-close and reopen the app, then try again
  4. Restart your device if the issue persists
AI features are not showing+

AI features require iOS 26+ with Apple Intelligence enabled and the language model downloaded. Check:

  1. Your device is iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 model
  2. Apple Intelligence is turned on in iOS Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri
  3. The language model has finished downloading (Settings shows download progress)
  4. The app language matches a supported Apple Intelligence language (English, Spanish, French, Japanese, or Portuguese)

On all other devices, AI options are simply not shown -- every other InspectKit feature works normally.

Reports not generating+
  1. Ensure the inspection has at least one finding or section completed
  2. Check that you have sufficient storage to save the PDF
  3. Try again after closing other apps
  4. Update to the latest version of InspectKit
iCloud sync not working+
  1. Ensure iCloud sync is enabled in InspectKit Settings
  2. Check your iCloud account status in iOS Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud
  3. Ensure you have sufficient iCloud storage
  4. Sign out and back into your Apple ID
  5. Force-close and reopen the app

Note: video clips are device-only and do not sync via iCloud by design.

App crashes or slow performance+
  1. Update to the latest version of InspectKit in the App Store
  2. Ensure your iPhone is running iOS 18.0 or later
  3. Force-close the app (swipe up from the bottom and swipe away InspectKit)
  4. Free up device storage -- inspections with many photos and videos need space
  5. Restart your device
  6. If crashes persist, email us with your device model and iOS version
