Frequently asked questions

What is UpRep?+

UpRep is a wake-up alarm that makes you physically get out of bed. Instead of a snooze button, the alarm gives you an exercise challenge - and the only way to turn it off is to complete the reps you set. Your iPhone's camera watches and counts each rep in real time, so there's no faking it and no going back to sleep.

How does the camera count my reps?+

UpRep uses Apple's Vision framework and on-device pose detection to watch your movement and count each valid rep live, with a large counter and progress bar. Prop up your phone, get in frame, and start moving. Every frame is processed on your device and immediately discarded - nothing is recorded, saved, or uploaded.

Which exercises are supported?+

UpRep counts five exercises:

  • Free: push-ups, squats, jumping jacks
  • Premium: lunges, high knees

Each exercise gives a quick camera-positioning tip so you can frame yourself for accurate counting.

How do I set up a wake-up?+
  1. Choose a time for the alarm
  2. Pick an exercise, or build a routine of several
  3. Set how many reps you need to complete
  4. Choose a repeat schedule - once, every day, weekdays, or custom days

You can schedule multiple wake-ups for different times and days.

What are routines?+

A routine chains multiple exercises into one wake-up - for example 10 squats, then 10 push-ups, then 20 jumping jacks. You complete each exercise in turn to dismiss the alarm.

What is auto-progress?+

You can pick easy, normal, or hard rep targets, or let a wake-up automatically add a few reps each time you complete it - so you gradually get stronger without having to adjust the target yourself.

How do streaks work?+

The Progress tab tracks completed wake-ups, total reps, weekly activity, completion rate, and your current and best streaks. Streaks are honest: dismissing an alarm without finishing only counts against you once you've genuinely skipped it in favor of a later wake-up, not for a single missed morning.

Is my camera feed private?+

Yes. All image and body-pose processing happens entirely on-device. Your camera feed is never recorded, saved, or uploaded - not to us, not to anyone. The only thing kept is your rep count and completion result, stored locally. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Does UpRep sync across my devices?+

Yes, optionally. Your alarms, history, and progress can sync across your devices through your own private iCloud account. Everything works offline too - sync is a convenience layered on top, not a requirement.

What's the difference between Free and Premium?+

Free:

  • Up to 2 saved wake-ups
  • Three exercises (push-ups, squats, jumping jacks)
  • Full rep counting, routines within limits, progress and streaks
  • Supported by ads

Premium:

  • All five exercises (adds lunges and high knees)
  • Unlimited wake-ups
  • Completely ad-free
  • Available monthly, yearly, or as a one-time lifetime purchase
How do I cancel my subscription?+
  1. Open Settings on your iPhone
  2. Tap [Your Name] at the top
  3. Tap Subscriptions
  4. Find UpRep and tap it
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription

You'll keep Premium access until the end of the current billing period. The lifetime purchase is one-time and never needs cancelling.

What iOS version is required?+
  • iOS 26.1 or later (iPhone)
  • Camera access is required for rep counting
  • iCloud is optional, for syncing across devices

UpRep uses AlarmKit and Vision features that require iOS 26.1 or later.

Troubleshooting

The camera isn't counting my reps

  1. Follow the on-screen camera tip for the exercise so your full range of motion is in frame
  2. Make sure the room is well-lit and your phone is propped up steadily
  3. Step back so your whole body (or the relevant part) is visible
  4. Confirm UpRep has camera permission in iOS Settings → UpRep

The alarm didn't sound

  1. Check that notifications are enabled for UpRep in iOS Settings
  2. Make sure your device isn't in a mode that silences alarms and that the volume is up
  3. Keep your device charged - a dead battery can't sound an alarm
  4. Do not rely on UpRep as your only alarm for safety-critical wake-ups

My progress isn't syncing

  1. Confirm you're signed in to iCloud and that iCloud is enabled for UpRep
  2. Check your internet connection - sync needs a connection, though the app works offline
  3. Open the app on each device to let it sync

App is slow or crashing

  1. Force-close the app (swipe up from the bottom and swipe away UpRep)
  2. Restart your iPhone
  3. Check for an app update in the App Store
  4. If crashes persist, email us - crash reports help us fix issues fast
