Your tank data stays on your device. All reef tank parameters, dosing records, livestock data, and journal entries are stored locally on your device or encrypted in your own iCloud account. We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated usage data to improve the app -- this data is not linked to your identity and is never used for advertising or tracking.
1. Who We Are
LynxApps ("we," "us," "our") develops the ReefDose application ("App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use ReefDose on iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
2. Data Stored on Your Device
All reef tank content lives locally on your device in the app sandbox (SwiftData):
- Tank and parameter data: Tank name, volume, type, water parameters (calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, pH, salinity, temperature, and custom parameters), dosing records, and task schedules.
- Livestock inventory: Species, category, add date, care notes, and history -- stored locally, never uploaded.
- Journal and timeline: Free-text journal entries and timeline events stored in the app sandbox.
- Expense records: Amounts, categories, and notes stored locally.
- Settings: Language preference, currency, notification settings, and other app preferences stored in UserDefaults.
3. iCloud Sync (Pro Feature)
When you enable iCloud sync, ReefDose stores your tank data in your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit private database. This data is:
- Stored in your iCloud account, encrypted by Apple
- Accessible only to you on devices signed in to the same Apple ID
- Not accessible by LynxApps
- Governed by Apple's iCloud Privacy Policy
iCloud sync is optional -- you can use ReefDose entirely offline without it.
4. Analytics and Crash Reporting
ReefDose uses Firebase (by Google) for two purposes in release builds:
- Analytics: Anonymous, aggregated event data such as "tank created", "parameter logged", "dose logged". No tank content, parameter values, livestock names, or journal entries are ever included in analytics events.
- Crashlytics: If the app crashes, a report containing device model, iOS version, and a stack trace is sent. No personal data, tank content, or parameter values are included in crash reports.
Analytics events are fired only from release (App Store / TestFlight) builds, not from debug or simulator builds. Firebase data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
5. App Permissions
ReefDose may request the following permissions:
- Notifications: To send task reminders and re-engagement nudges. You control this in iOS Settings and can decline it during onboarding. Task reminder notifications are scheduled locally -- no server is involved.
- iCloud (CloudKit): To sync your tank data across devices (Pro feature). Enabled via iOS Settings.
- Spotlight indexing: To allow Siri Shortcuts and Spotlight search to surface your tanks. Index entries contain only tank names -- no parameter values.
6. In-App Purchases
Pro subscriptions and the Lifetime purchase are processed entirely by Apple via StoreKit 2. LynxApps never sees or stores your payment details. Purchase receipt validation happens on-device.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
Your data exists only on your device (and in your iCloud account if sync is enabled). To delete it:
- Delete individual tanks, parameters, livestock, or journal entries from within the app at any time.
- Delete the app from your device to permanently remove all local ReefDose data.
- If iCloud sync is enabled, deleting data in the app also removes it from iCloud.
8. Security
ReefDose relies on iOS's built-in security model. App data is stored in the app sandbox, encrypted at rest by iOS data protection. No tank content is transmitted over the network except when you export and share it via the system share sheet, or when iCloud sync is enabled (encrypted by Apple).
9. Children's Privacy
The App is rated 4+ and is appropriate for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
10. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA / LGPD)
Because ReefDose stores all personal data locally on your device (or in your own iCloud):
- Access: All your tank data is visible within the app at any time.
- Deletion: Delete individual records in-app, or delete the app entirely to remove all data.
- No data sale: We do not sell personal data.
- Notification opt-out: Disable reminders at any time in iOS Settings or ReefDose Settings.
- Analytics opt-out: Anonymous analytics are governed by Firebase; refer to Google's privacy controls for opt-out options.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
