Terms of Service

Please read these terms before using HalalCheck. By downloading or using the app you agree to be bound by them.

Last updated: July 2026  ·  Effective: July 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of HalalCheck ("the App"), developed by LynxApps ("we", "us", "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the App you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. License

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use HalalCheck on Apple devices you own or control, subject to these Terms and Apple's App Store Terms of Service. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, sublicense, sell, or redistribute the App.

3. Subscriptions and In-App Purchases

HalalCheck offers the following Premium plans:

  • Premium Monthly -- $2.99/month, auto-renewing, 7-day free trial
  • Premium Yearly -- $19.99/year, auto-renewing, 7-day free trial

Free trials convert to paid subscriptions at the end of the trial period unless cancelled beforehand. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Manage or cancel subscriptions via iPhone Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions. Prices are in USD and may vary by region. All purchases are final; refunds are governed by Apple's refund policy.

4. Free Tier Limits

The free tier includes a limited number of barcode and label scans per day. Ingredient search, E-code browsing, and scan history are available without limit on the free tier. Unlimited daily scans and an ad-free experience require a Premium subscription. The daily scan limit resets at midnight in your local time zone.

5. Not Religious Advice

HalalCheck provides algorithmic estimates based on ingredient names matched against its database. It does not constitute a fatwa, religious ruling, or Islamic legal opinion of any kind. The app makes no guarantee that a "Halal" verdict means a product is permissible according to your specific madhab, scholar, or personal standard. Unknown ingredients are always classified as Doubtful, not Halal. You are solely responsible for your dietary and religious decisions. Consult a qualified Islamic scholar for guidance specific to your circumstances.

6. Database Accuracy

The ingredient and E-code databases are maintained to the best of our ability but may be incomplete, out of date, or inaccurate. Manufacturers change formulations without notice. The app relies on ingredient text obtained from OpenFoodFacts and other third-party sources, which may itself be incorrect or outdated. LynxApps makes no warranty as to the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for purpose of any verdict produced by the App.

7. Third-Party Data Sources

Barcode lookups use the OpenFoodFacts API and the UPC Item DB API. HalalCheck is not affiliated with either service. The accuracy of ingredient data returned by these services is outside our control. LynxApps is not responsible for errors or omissions in data provided by third-party sources.

8. Your Data

You retain full ownership of all scan history stored on your device. We do not access, collect, or sell your data. See our Privacy Policy for full details. Deleting the App removes all locally stored data permanently.

9. Advertising

The free tier displays banner and interstitial advertisements via Google AdMob. By using the free tier you consent to the display of ads. Premium subscribers are not shown ads. Ad content is served by Google and is subject to Google's policies.

10. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use HalalCheck for any unlawful purpose, attempt to circumvent subscription enforcement, attempt to reverse-engineer the App, or scrape the App's databases.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

HalalCheck is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular religious or dietary purpose. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that verdicts will be correct. Your use of the App is at your own risk.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, LynxApps shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of HalalCheck, including reliance on any verdict produced by the App, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

13. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your license to use HalalCheck at any time if you violate these Terms. Upon termination, you must delete all copies of the App.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The latest version will always be available at /halalcheck/terms. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which LynxApps operates, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
